Welcome to Crakehall Cottages

Our attractive and beautifully furnished high quality self-catering accommodation is in a picturesque and peaceful riverside setting in the grounds of Crakehall Watermill, where a mill has stood since Domesday. We also have a small caravan site for just five vans nestling in the nearby meadow, offering a quiet haven for visitors.
Discover our tranquil location in Crakehall, a small village near the market town of Bedale in Lower Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. The village is one of the prettiest in the Yorkshire Dales, with a stunning manor house overlooking a large village green. The thriving Bay Horse pub, village shop and filling station are just five minutes' walk away.
We are ideally situated for exploring the great countryside of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors national parks. Tucked away just three miles from the A1 and 15 minutes south of Scotch Corner, Crakehall is well positioned for the fine cities of York, Ripon and Durham as well as local market towns such as Bedale, Northallerton, Leyburn, Richmond and Masham. Footpaths lead direct from our site to stunning country walks.
Crakehall Watermill Cottages have been created as part of a sympathetic conversion of the old stables, kiln and cart house. They currently accommodate a total of six guests. By spring 2012, this will increase to 12, once work on Miller's Retreat is complete.
Why not consider ordering a self-catering arrival pack or a range of ready-made dishes from Granary Foods, a family-run local company that will deliver to your cottage or carvan at the start of your holiday?

Local Area

Crakehall is one of the prettiest villages in the Yorkshire Dales. The village green, just fine minutes' walk from Crakehall Watermill, is overlooked by an imposing manor house, St Gregory's Church, the thriving Bay Horse pub and a well-stocked local shop and filling station. The village cricket and quoits teams often play on the green in this beautiful setting in summer.

Watermill

A mill was recorded here in Little Crakehall in the Domesday Survey of 1086. After extensive repairs in 2010 – carried out as part of a major forthcoming BBC TV series – the waterwheel is turning once again, turning locally-grown wheat into 100% wholemeal flour that is perfect for bread making.
Please note: The mill is not open for regular viewing. See here for forthcoming open days.
